BETRAYAL – PIT PROCESS
Genesis 37-40
GETTING TO KNOW YOU….
1. We’ve been talking about the story of Joseph… In Particular the Subjects of Betrayal and ‘the Pit’. We’ve all been in ‘the Pit’, no doubt multiple times in our lives. Reflect for a few moments about your life and the ‘Pits’ you have inhabited.
2. As you’ve heard the messages each week, read and reflected, what memories of betrayal have been brought back to your mind?
DIGGING DEEPER….
*NOTE: Are you reading ahead in the Story of Joseph, Genesis 37-50, each week as we prepare for not only the weekly message but also for your personal and Courage Crossing Group Benefit? Please read the story of Joseph, this week we were in Chapter 40 after reviewing the previous passages….
1. Speaking of Joseph and Potiphar, Genesis 39:3 says; ‘When his master saw that the Lord was with him…’. Practically speaking, what are some of the ways that people around us, at work and t school, can see that the Lord Is with us?
2. Pastor spoke about how we are in an I Want It Overnight, Quick Fix Culture. Yet, As we see In the life of Joseph, God uses time and circumstances as part of our correction, maturing and preparation process in life.
a. How can you see this has impacted people getting married…?
b. How can you see this has impacted people dealing with ‘life issues’?
c. How can you see this has impacted our work ethic and pursuing of careers?
3. Multiple times in the story of Joseph it declares, ‘And the Lord was with Joseph’..
a. Take some time and reflect privately and publically on what this truly meant… I mean, the Lord was with Joseph in the Pit, in the Caravan, in Potiphar’s home, as he was tempted by Mr. Potiphar and when he went to prison…
b. What does/should that statement ‘And the Lord was with Joseph’ say to you and to me about our own life?
4. ‘Note The Following Scripture Passages:
‘The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord…’ Psalm 37:23
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct y your paths…’ Proverbs 3:5=6
‘So he put them (Pharaoh’s Butler and Baker) in the custody of the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison, the place where Joseph was confined.’ Genesis 40:3
a. Have you ever thought about the fact that God, was continually using ‘Pit’s’ to prepare Joseph for what He ultimately had planned for him (Prime Minister of Egypt under Pharaoh)? He worked for Joseph, a trusted cabinet member of Pharaoh who would, no doubt have spoken at home of how things worked in Pharaoh’s government... and, he got to know the Butler and Baker in prison, who would, no doubt have much intimate knowledge of Pharaoh’s personal life and personality…. *Both of which were helpful in preparing Joseph.
b. How, in the past and/or in the present can you see that God has/is preparing you for what He has in store for you?
c. How should this encourage you and I as we go through the events of life… life’s betrayal’s and ‘Pits’?
TAKING IT HOME
The ‘Pit Process’… There certainly is a Process that God uses as he takes us through the ‘Pits’ we have to go through in our lives many times. As you go home, during your private meditation, study and prayer time…. Reflect on the ‘Pit Process’ in your own personal life and thank God for what He has done and is continuing to do.
