BETRAYAL – WHAT GOES AROUND
Genesis 37-42

GETTING TO KNOW YOU….

1. The Message/Lesson this week revolves around the old concept we all have known as ‘What Goes Around Comes Around’. Reflect for a moment with your group or in your personal study time about some things in your life that are proof of that statement.

2. Have you ever been guilty of being the ‘Betrayer’? What did you learn?

DIGGING DEEPER….

1. The real ‘heart’ of our message on Joseph this week revolved around the subject of sowing and reaping. Please look up the following verses, read and share your thoughts with each other: Galatians 6:7, Job 4:8; Prov.16:28 (KJV); Prov.22:8; Hosea 8:7

2. There are 3 Laws/Truths About Sowing And Reaping:
#1 – You Reap What You Sow
#2 – You Reap After You Sow
#3 – You Reap More Than You Sow

a. In The Story of Joseph… When Thinking Of Joseph’s 10 Older Brothers… Based on Genesis 37-50, how can you see these 3 laws/truths illustrated?
b. In your life, have you ever experienced these laws/truths?

3. Considerable Time Was Spent In The Sermon Talking About Envy… The Sin That Led Joseph’s Brothers to cast him into the pit and ultimately sell him into slavery.

a. Read out loud the following verses dealing with envy, reflecting on each of them and discussing what they mean… Psalm 37:1; Proverbs 3:31; Proverbs 14:30; Proverbs 23:17; I Corinthians 13:4; Galatians 5:26
b. What was it about Joseph that his brothers Envied? How have you seen envy work in either your life or the life of someone else? How did it affect you or them?

4. Dave talked about our friends as being either “Adders” (snakes that run around and bite when in the pit) or ‘Ladders’ (people who point us up and out of the pit) in our lives. List the qualities that make someone a “Ladder” to you.

a. Have you had any ‘Ladders’ in your life?

b. How about ‘Adders’?

5. As Dave concluded the message Sunday morning he emphasized that we can deal with Betrayal in our life by utilizing the ‘F-L-A-B’ Principle….

F – ‘Face The Truth’
L – ‘Look Up’
A – ‘Assess The Damage’
B – ‘Become Broken’

a. List Several Ways That The Truth Can Be Faced….
(In your personal life, what truth needs to be faced right now? .. You don’t have to share this…)
b. What has God given us that can help us Look Up?
(NOTE: Personally, who are the ‘Ladder People’ in your life?)
c. Any Ideas About what is meant by ‘Collateral Damage’?
(What collateral damage has been done in your life that needs to be dealt with?)
d. Have you ever been ‘Broken’? Do you need to pray that God will break you now?
*Read Psalm 51:6-12

TAKING IT HOME

What ‘Goes Around’… The Lesson is a heavy one this week. Truthfully, ‘What goes around does eventually come around.’ As Dave said multiple times in the message ‘You Will Meet Your Sin Again.’ The ‘Chickens Do Come Home To Roost’. What is it in your life that you need to be broken in and bring to God? Why not do it today… I John 1:9
