STRESSBUSTERS – THE ANTIDOTE BUSYNESS
GETTING TO KNOW YOU….
1. Take a moment and think about how you spend your week. In you opinion, how do you spend the average week in your life? Hours you work earning a living. Hours you work around the home (housework, yardwork, laundry, etc)? Hours you spend in recreation? Hours you spend in direct worship and service to God (church attendance, service preparation, courage crossing time, Bible study, devotional time)?
2. How do spend your ‘free’ time? What do you like to do in recreation and hobbies?
3. Take The following ‘Workaholic Quiz’:
1. Are You Always In A Hurry?
2. Is Your “To Do” List Always Unrealistically Too Long?
3. Do You Use Days Off To Catch Up On Unfinished Work?
4. Has More Than One Person Ever Told You To Slow Down?
5. Do You Feel Guilty When You Relax?
6. Do You Have To Get Sick To Take Time Off?
DIGGING DEEPER….
*In His Message Sunday, Pastor Dave Gave Us A Prescription For Pressured People—God’s Way To Relax:
#1 – Realize My Worth
God decided to give us life through the word of truth so we might be the most important of all the things he made.’ James 1:18 (NCV)
‘…your heavenly Father feeds the (sparrows). And you are far more valuable to him than they are.’ Matthew 6:26 (LB)
‘I’ve engraved you on the palms of my hands.’ Isaiah 49:16
a. Reflect, as a believer, on how the fact that God gave his son for you affects your view of your personal value to Him…
b. He has Saved You… Sealed you… and Secured you a home In Heaven.. How does that affect your view of your value to Him.
#2 – Enjoy What I Have
‘All of us should…enjoy what we have worked for; it is God’s gift.’ Ecclesiastes 3:13 (GN)
‘It is better to have only a little with peace of mind, than to be busy all the time..’ Ecclesiastes 4:6 (GN)
a. What measures do you/have you/do you plan to put in place to insure that you enjoy what you have instead fo always driving yourself for more?
#3 – Limit My Labor
‘You have six days in which to do your work, but the 7th day is to be a day of rest dedicated to Me.’ Exodus 20:9-10 (GN)
a. Pastor Dave spoke about 2 uses for our day of rest:
- Rest Our Body
- Recharge Our Emotions
- Refocus Our Spirit (Worship)
b. Take time to reflect personally and discuss together your personal needs in each of these areas. What can you do for each other to help insure you take your day of rest and utilize it to meet these needs.
#4 – Adjust My Values
‘I’ve learned why people work so hard to succeed; it is because they envy the things their neighbors have.’ Ecclesiastes 4:4 (GN)
‘What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit is soul?’ Mark 8:36
a. What things are most important to you in life?
b. What do you do in life that demonstrates these values?
#5 – Exchange My Pressure For God’s Peace…
‘He makes me to lie down in green pastures.’ Psalm 23:2
a. Candidly, the only thing that will give peace in a storm tossed world is allowing the Lord to be your shepherd. In your life, what demonstrates that the Lord is your Shepherd… OR, what do you need to do to make the Lord your shepherd?
TAKING IT HOME
As you go home, would you commit yourself this week to overcoming the plague of business by allowing the Lord to ‘make you lie down in green pastures..’
