STRESSBUSTERS – THE ANTIDOTE DAMAGED EMOTIONS

GETTING TO KNOW YOU….

1. We’re all emotional creatures, God made us that way and gave each of us our emotions. However, we all have different ‘weak points’ emotionally. What do you consider to be your ‘weak link’ emotionally, what emotions do you have the most trouble with in your life?

2. Have you ever been ‘hurt’ severely emotionally? Does that ‘pain’ still linger and impact you in your life? If you can, share with the others your pain… where you are at in the healing process… and how they can help/pray for your continued healing.

DIGGING DEEPER….

1. The 51st Psalm is a Great passage dealing with the guilt that results from sin and how we need to deal with it… *Read the 51st Psalm Out Loud… There were a number of ‘steps’ David took in dealing with his guilt from sin… let’s look at the Psalm and list them…

a. What was the 1st Step David took in Dealing with his sin? v.1

b. What was Step #2? v.1-4

c. Step #3? v.7-11

d. Step #4? v.12-19

2. Another great picture of a person dealing with guilt before God is found in the 38th Psalm. *Read the 38th Psalm aloud…

a. Look carefully at the Psalm and identify the characteristics of a person dealing with guilt….

b. Once again, a key to dealing with guilt is found in Psm.38:21-22… What is that key?

2. As Pastor spoke Sunday, he said that there were 3 Things We Needed to do to deal with Grief in our life… All Found in the story of David’s response to his sin with Bathsheba and the death of his son…

#1 – Accept What Cannot Be Changed…
‘Then David got up from the ground… He said, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept… But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring Him back alive? 2 Samuel 12:22-23

a. What areas of David’s Sin and surrounding circumstances could not be changed?
b. What are things that have happened in your life that your grieve over that cannot be changed?

#2 – Play it Down and Pray It Up..

‘After he had washed, put on lotions, and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the Lord and worshipped.’

a. Too often we allow sin to keep us ‘in a rut’. Read I John 1:9 aloud and discuss what it means… 1) To the person who sinned… 2) To those of us who are around the person

#3 – Focus on what’s left and not on what’s lost…

‘Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and lay with her. She gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. 2 Samuel 12:24

a. In your opinion, how does Romans 8:28 apply here?

3. Grudges Are the result of what others do to us when we choose not to forgive. Read Ephesians 4:31-32
a. What are the things scripture says here that we are to ‘put away’ from ourselves?
b. Note the things we are to do in v.32:
1) What does it mean to be ‘kind one to another’?
2) What does it mean to be ‘tenderhearted’?
3) What does it mean to Forgive ‘even as God, in Christ forgave you?’

TAKING IT HOME

Psalm 23:3 says, ‘He restoreth my soul.’ Candidly, God is in the restoration business… he wants to not only save us to keep us from a Christless eternity but he also wants to actively be involved in healing our Pain… our Guilt… our Grief… and our Grudges. Will you accept the challenge this week and allow the Lord to be your Shepherd and Restore your soul? It may not be an easy process… but it certainly will be worth the effort.
