Faith To Change
Hebrews 11
GETTING TO KNOW YOU…
1. What Happened This Week That Was An Unexpected Blessing? Think For A Few Minutes About The Goodness of God And All Of Ways He Has Blessed your Life… Share Your Blessings.
2. The Message Sunday Morning Was on “Faith To Change”. In What Area, That you Can Share With Your Group, Is your Faith Being Challenged Right Now?
DIGGING DEEPER
1. As You Begin Your Group Study, Take Time To Quietly Read Through Hebrews 11, Taking Special Notice of All Of the People Who Are Mentioned As Illustrations Of Faith. Now, Who of These Mentioned People do You Most Identify With? Why? Share It With your Group.
2. The First Thing Abraham Did by Faith Was To ‘STEP OUT’ In Response To The Command of God.
“It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.” Hebrews 11:8 (NLT)
As You Think About ‘Stepping Out’… There Were 3 Important things mentioned That We can Learn From Abraham: a. Look That The 1st Step – And not the whole Journey
b. Look at God – And Not yourself
c. Look At the Blessings – And Not The Struggles
As You Look At Your Life… Why Do Or Don’t These ‘Pieces of Advice’ Make Sense? Can You Think of Times In your Life where application of these would have helped you to ‘Step Out’ and not hold back in doing what God Wanted You to do? How About right Now… What is it God Is possibly wanting you to do that focusing on these 3 pieces of advice will help you with?
3. Pastor Dave Talked About How It Is ‘By Faith That You Stay’.
“And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in a tent. And so did Isaac and Jacob, to whom God gave the same promise. Abraham did this because he was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God.” Hebrews 11:9-10 (NLT)
Abraham truly Built his Present on The Foundation of The Future…. Instead of focusing on the ‘right now’, he was busy focusing on what God had ultimately promised…. Look Up and Read The Following Scriptures and Talk About What They Mean To You When you Think About it and Focus On them… 2 Corinthians 5:1 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
Revelation 21:1-4, 10-27; 22:1-5
4. It Is By Faith That We Succeed… We Succeed By Trusting In God.
“It was by faith that Sarah together with Abraham was able to have a child, even though they were too old and Sarah was barren. Abraham believed that God would keep his promise. And so a whole nation came from this one man, Abraham, who was too old to have any children—a nation with so many people that, like the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore, there is no way to count them.” Hebrews 11:11-12 (NLT)
*Read Proverbs 3:5-6…. How Do You Believe/Think It Applies Here?
5. Finally, It is By Faith That We Sacrifice… God Allows Us To Prosper & Succeed In Life so That What Happens Can Be Used for Him…
“It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God's promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, though God had promised him, "Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” Abraham assumed that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again.” Hebrews 11:17-19 (NLT)
a. Understand, Isaac was the fulfillment of God’s original Promise to Abraham (In Heb.11:11- 12 above). Yet, In Obedience To The Request Of God, Abraham Was Truly Willing to Sacrifice His Son Back To God…. Knowing That God Would Still Keep His Original Promise….
1) What Does This Mean To You Personally?
2) What Are Some Areas Of Possible ‘Blessing’ or ‘Success’ In Life That God Sometimes Wants Us To ‘Sacrifice’ Back To Him?
TAKING IT HOME
This Message Gives us a lot to think about. What Area/Areas In Your Life Has God ‘Blessed’ or made you a ‘Success’ in that He now wants to use for Him. Remember… Remember: ‘Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights…’ James 1:17 (KJV). All That We have is from Him… He has promised to bless us… and Has blessed us. And, He has the right to ask us for sacrifice it back to him.. Are you Up to the Task? Are you willing to trust Him to keep His Promises?
PRAYER TIME
Prayer is an important part of the Christian life, which is why we always want to take time during Courage Crossing to make prayer a priority. As You Take time for personal prayer requests, remember that good group prayer often takes effort, so here are some guidelines to help make your Courage Crossing Prayer Time more effective:
WE PRAY FOR ONE TOPIC AT A TIME- Anyone in the group is free to introduce a prayer request either before prayer begins or during the prayer time. Once a topic is introduced, the group focuses on that request alone. Once it’s covered, the group moves on to the next topic
EACH PERSON PRAYS MORE THAN ONCE. Because the group is focused on one topic at a time, each person is encouraged to pray several times during the prayer time for those topics they feel most led to pray about.
WE KEEP OUR PRAYERS SHORT AND SIMPLE- Group prayer goes better when members keep their prayers short and to the point. When someone prays for a long time, it’s hard for the other members to stay focused and long prayers tend to intimidate those who are just learning to pray out loud in the group.
