Testimony Time!
1. During Sunday's message, Steve said self-sufficiency was one of his biggest stumbling blocks to welcoming Christ in his life. What were your main stumbling blocks to accepting Christ?
2. Does anyone wish to share his or her testimony?
Choose This Day Whom You Will Serve
READ ROMANS 1:20 - "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."
1. Where do you see God's 'invisible qualities?'
2. What does the passage mean when it says 'men are without excuse"'
3. Do you believe the Bible is the Word of God? Why or why not? Do you take the Bible as history? Why or why not?
READ DEUTERONOMY 6:6-8: "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads."
1. Moses (Deuteronomy 29), Joshua (Joshua 24) and several Psalms (try Psalm 136) speak of what God had done for his people. It was important for these things to be remembered by future generations.
What things has God done for you in your life that you should always remember? Should we be passing these things on to our children as it says in Deuteronomy 6:6-8?
2. If we have trouble remembering the things God has done for us, what can we do to change this?
Do Not Worry
READ MATTHEW 6:25-34
1. Why should we stop worrying about tomorrow?
2. What are the 'silly things' you tend to worry about? Can we figure out how to refrain from worrying so much?
Developing Good Spiritual Habits
1. Do you sometimes feel you are going 'against the wind?' How?
READ ROMANS 5:3-5: "We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom He has given to us."
(OPTIONAL SCRIPTURES TO READ: I Cor. 13:7, II Tim 4:7)
2. Do you have examples of how adversity has made you stronger?
3. What good spiritual habits have you formed? What ones do you long for?
