THE PRAYER OF SURRENDER

SOURCES OF STRESS

UNCONTROLABLE CIRCUMSTANCES

UNCOOPERATIVE PEOPLE

UNEXPAINABLE PAIN…

‘Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’ Matthew 6:9-10 (NKJV)

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS WHEREVER JESUS IS KING

I. SURRENDERING TO JESUS MEANS LETTING GO OF CONTROL…

‘Let go, and know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth.’ Psalm 46:10 (GW)

THE SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace
Taking as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it;
Trusting that You will make all things right
If I surrender to your will
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with you forever in the next. Amen.

II. SURRENDERING TO JESUS MEANS LEARNING TO BE CONTENT…

‘I have learned to be satisfied [content] with the things that I have and with everything that happens. I know how to live when I’m poor and I know how to live when I have plenty. And I have learned the secret of being happy [being contented] at any time in everything that happens. I can do all things through Christ because he gives me strength.’ Philippians 4:11-13 (NCV)

‘Surrender yourself to the Lord, and wait patiently for him.’ Psalm 37:7a (GW)

‘Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’ Matthew 6:9-10 (NKJV)

III. SURRENDERING TO JESUS MEANS LAYING DOWN MY PLANS…

‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.’ I Peter 5:8 (NKJV)

‘This I how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.’ I John 3:16 (NIV)

‘…Give yourselves to God… surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes.’ Romans 6:13 (TEV)

‘God will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.’ Matthew 6:33 (NLT)

IV. SURRENDERING TO JESUS MEANS LEAVING THE FUTURE TO GOD…

‘Trust in the Lord with All Your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths.’ Proverbs 3:5-6

‘The Lord takes care of those who obey him, and gives them eternal rewards that last forever. They will survive through hard times and will have more than enough even in a time of famine.’ Psalm 37:18-19 (TEV)

Jesus – ‘…You Must give up everything you have to be my follower..’
Luke 14:33 (NCV)

‘But let me assure you that no one has ever given up anything…for love of me and to tell others the Good News, who won’t be given back, a hundred times over…and in the world to come he shall have eternal life.’ Mark 10:29-30 (LB)

‘Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’ Matthew 6:9-10 (NKJV)
